The assumptions and<br \/>\nlimitations that apply to the calculation procedure are defined<br \/>\ntogether with the prescribed loading conditions assumed to apply to<br \/>\nthe spring. The Item provides derivation of the deformation,<br \/>\nstresses and transverse loading on the spring and the form design<br \/>\nof the spring ends which will affect the loading characteristics.<br \/>\nThe elastic stability of compression and torsion springs are<br \/>\ndiscussed and formulae given for ensuring stability.<\/p>\n<p>In engineering practice cylindrical helical springs are used in<br \/>\nthree different ways, as<\/p>\n<p>compression springs,<\/p>\n<p>tension springs and<\/p>\n<p>torsion springs.<\/p>\n<p>This Item contains design data for all three kinds of helical<br \/>\nspring as listed above.
