{"id":557413,"date":"2024-11-05T18:17:57","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T18:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/uncategorized\/esdu-080062009\/"},"modified":"2024-11-05T18:17:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T18:17:57","slug":"esdu-080062009","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/publishers\/esdu\/esdu-080062009\/","title":{"rendered":"ESDU 08006:2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Data Item should be read in conjunction with the<br \/>\nintroductory Data Item on the treatment of risk, ESDU 08003<br \/>\n(Reference 1) and examples of risk analysis, ESDU 08004 and 08005<br \/>\n(References 2 and 3).<\/p>\n<p>It is easily established that a number of factors will affect<br \/>\naircraft performance and these will clearly be seen inside the<br \/>\nAircraft Flight Manual (AFM) or other equivalent performance<br \/>\ndocument. When operating normally the flight crew or company<br \/>\ndispatchers will have access to all the information necessary for<br \/>\nthem to load the aircraft correctly and within limits, and to<br \/>\nestablish the performance information with regard to take-off,<br \/>\nthereby enabling the aircraft to make a safe flight. However,<br \/>\ncircumstances can be envisaged where an aircraft has to be<br \/>\noperated, for example in a war zone, where a pick-up has to be made<br \/>\nin a remote and dangerous area when the operator will not have<br \/>\naccess to airport data. Such data may be ambient temperature and<br \/>\nmay include an uncertainty about the weight of the load to be<br \/>\ncarried by the aircraft. In more extreme circumstances the operator<br \/>\nmay be uncertain about the length of available runway, where runway<br \/>\ndamage or other circumstance has restricted the length, and as a<br \/>\nresult may not have the safety benefit of engine failure<br \/>\naccountability within the distance actually available.<\/p>\n<p>Given the above circumstances, what are the relative risks?<br \/>\nGiven a controlled analysis can the risks be understood and<br \/>\nmitigated?<\/p>\n<p>The above suggested &#034;in-theatre risk&#034; is only one case where a<br \/>\nfuller understanding of the relationships between parameters<br \/>\ncritical to the performance of the aircraft is helpful. Other<br \/>\nexamples can be suggested, for example determining the accuracy of<br \/>\nmeasurement for each parameter of a test aircraft instrumentation<br \/>\nsystem \u2013 a &#034;sensitivity analysis&#034;, or an airline seeking a better<br \/>\nunderstanding of where economies accruing from aircraft performance<br \/>\ncan be made.<\/p>\n<p>By making use of published performance information the<br \/>\nsensitivity of an aircraft to variations in those data can be<br \/>\nestablished, which in turn provides a measure of the variations in<br \/>\nrisk.<\/p>\n<p>In discussing this subject it should be made very clear that<br \/>\nnormal operations of any aircraft must be conducted in accordance<br \/>\nwith the AFM.
