Although<br \/>\nintended primarily for the evaluation of parts such as<br \/>\ninterconnecting devices, the method may be applied to other<br \/>\ncomponents when applicable and when required by a Detail<br \/>\nSpecification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Failure Modes.<\/strong> Potential failure modes for this<br \/>\ntest include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<p>a. Loosening or breaking of parts,<\/p>\n<p>b. Insert bonding failure,<\/p>\n<p>c. Excessive swelling of resilient materials, or other<br \/>\ndegradation of elastomers,<\/p>\n<p>d. Damage to interface seals<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ozone Hazard.<\/strong> Ozone is a physiologically<br \/>\nhazardous gas at elevated concentrations. Levels of acceptable<br \/>\nindustrial exposure have been established by the American<br \/>\nConference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, 6500 Glenway<br \/>\nAve., Building D-7, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. Ozone has a distinctive<br \/>\nodor which is initially discernible at low concentrations. It is<br \/>\nlikely to be present whenever voltages exist which are sufficient<br \/>\nto cause partial or complete discharges in air or in other<br \/>\natmospheres containing oxygen. (It may also be formed in air by<br \/>\nultraviolet radiation, as a combustion product, etc.) When the odor<br \/>\nof ozone is persistently present or when ozone generating<br \/>\nconditions continue, temporary impairment of the sense of smell<br \/>\ncould occur.
