The transmitting speech codec<br \/>\nreceives voice samples and generates an encoded speech packet for<br \/>\nevery Fundamental Channel Traffic Channel frame.<sup>\u2020<\/sup> The<br \/>\nreceiving station generates a speech packet from every Fundamental<br \/>\nChannel Traffic Channel frame and supplies it to the speech codec<br \/>\nfor decoding into voice samples.<\/p>\n<p>SMV communicates at one of four rates: 9600 bps, 4800 bps, 2400<br \/>\nbps and 1200 bps.<\/p>\n<p><sup>\u2020<\/sup> IS-2000-A uses the term &#034;frame&#034; to represent a 20<br \/>\nms grouping of data on the Fundamental Channel. Common speech codec<br \/>\nterminology also uses the term &#034;frame&#034; to represent a quantum of<br \/>\nprocessing. For Service Option 56, the speech codec frame<br \/>\ncorresponds to speech sampled over 20 ms. The speech samples are<br \/>\nprocessed into a packet.
