The methods<br \/>\ncontained herein may be used<br \/>\nto identify and locate specific fibers for the purpose of connection,<br \/>\ntermination, or testing<br \/>\nwithin a communication system or for the topography of long haul,<br \/>\nfeeder route, subscriber, or<br \/>\ndistribution applications for both on-premises and outside plant use.<\/p>\n<p>This standard also defines the optical fiber type identification<br \/>\nscheme for color coding or marking<br \/>\njackets for premises cables used primarily indoors. Cables with<br \/>\ncolored jackets are typically used<br \/>\nonly in intrabuilding applications and must be listed to a level of<br \/>\nfire resistance specific to<br \/>\ntheir use. The jacket materials used can be colored for identification<br \/>\npurposes.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, most cables deployed outdoors must incorporate additives<br \/>\nin the jacket material to be<br \/>\nable to withstand the damaging effects of solar radiation over their<br \/>\ndesigned operating lifetime.<br \/>\nSuch products typically contain carbon black material to provide the<br \/>\nrequisite level of protection,<br \/>\nwhich precludes the use of any jacket color other than black.
